French star point guard Tony Parker has been elected Europe's basketball player of the year for 2014, the continental organization FIBA Europe said Wednesday. Parker, 32, came in first in the ballot, far ahead of Serbian guard Milos Teodosic and another Frenchman and Spur teammate, forward Boris Diaw. The title, awarded in a vote by a panel of experts, went to Parker for the second straight year after his latest National Basketball Association championship with the San Antonio Spurs. In 2013, FIBA Europe recognized him for leading France to a first continental title. "Now I am a FIBA Europe player of the year for the second time in a row. It's a great honour to face players like Nowitzki, Gasol and all the others from the Euroleague," FIBA quoted Parker as saying. German and Spanish stars Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol are the only other two-time winners of the award since it was instituted in 2005. |
