Referee Hernandez Hernandez (L) shows red card to Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo
World player Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid has been
suspended for two Liga matches for a red card offence, the
disciplinary committee of the Spanish football federation said
Wednesday.
Ronaldo, 29, was sent off for fighting during the 2-1 win of the
league leaders Real at lowly Cordoba Saturday.
It was his fifth red card since joining Real in 2009. Los Merengues
were worried about a three or four match ban for Ronaldo in the light
of his poor disciplinary record.
He will miss Saturday's home game against Real Sociedad plus the
February 4 home clash against Sevilla, and will be able to return for
the February 7 derby away to champions Atletico Madrid.
